Solidaridad

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

“Solidaridad” “Blood covered the streets of our country, the blood of civilians and soldiers, together with the tears of women and children” (Raùl Silva Henriquez, Cardinal of Santiago) Solidaridad is a charity and assistance group, created by catholics in Santiago. Daily witnesses to the misery of Chilean population, of the daily struggle for a loaf of bread, for healthcare, for a job to provide for their families, the priests are close to the common people. Local priests and nuns face the hardship of the regime, and the unwillingness of Rome to denounce the dictatorship’s crimes. They become themselves opposers, potential victims. Among them, there are also supporters of the Junta, who appreciate the “political silence” imposed by the Junta after the Congress dismantlement, out of fear or to protect their herd, or for belief in anti-Marxism. Solidaridad’s game will be strong, dramatic, focused on interior dilemma. They will be active in the defence of Christian values in opposition to the regime, to the Vatican, or in the clash with the Marxist opposers. THEMES: faith, conscience, human rights, politics. “Solidaridad” “Blood covered the streets of our country, the blood of civilians and soldiers, together with the tears of women and children” (Raùl Silva Henriquez, Cardinal of Santiago) Solidaridad is a charity and assistance group, created by catholics in Santiago. The Vatican Delegation

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

Vatican delegation “As expected during a coup d’état, there has been bloodshed during the cleaning procedures in Chile” (Monsignor Benelli, Vatican Secretary of State) Far from Chilean reality, the high representatives of the Vatican support Pinochet in the name of the fight to communism. Voices of the dictatorship arrive in Rome, where the media accusations are thought to be a leftist campaign to belittle the regime. The clergy realize how much communist propaganda can influence the free world’s media. What will they do when they hear the screams of the prisoners? The regime’s propaganda and fear of communism will clash with ethics and religion. The power dynamics will conflict with moral and faith questions, in a delicate game of balances between politics and religion. The members of the Vatican delegation will play a game in which their beliefs will face reality, where theology and politics will face the horrors committed by men, THEMES: Politics, religion, hypocrisy, power.

The democratic opposition

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

Democratic Opposition “We buried our democracy, we buried our freedom” (I. Allende) Former politicians from the banished parties populate the mild opposition, still dangerous and illegal. Professors, teachers, artists, journalists, all try to resist censorship and are marked as dangerous subversives. They are various people, who all want to restore democracy by organized political and peaceful actions, strongly blaming violence both from the regime and MIR. Thoughts, art, words, they still have the power to convince the conscience of a country. Or to sentence it to death. The democratic opposition will build its game on the universal values of civilization, right, freedom, into a context where they have been wiped out and forbidden. THEMES: democratic values, responsibility, hope, resistance.

The regime

Mostra/nascondi descrizione della fazione The regime

The regime Silent fixers, privileged attachés, international guests with overt and hidden interests are involved with the regime, represented by the soldiers, the Carabineros, and the dangerous DINA. They will be the main perpetrators of violence and abuse. This will be an active gameplay, and not limited to violence. It will be a hard, intense gameplay, involving politics, power, hierarchy, intrigues and espionage. They will face dilemmas related to duty, responsibility for the cruel acts they will perform, or will be forced to, or will witness. The themes will be related to the violation of human rights and human dignity, but also obedience and personal convenience. WARNINGS: The players choosing to be a member of the regime MIGHT have to portray (in total safety) physical and psychological abuses. They will be harmlessly, yet realistically staged. The military, and specifically the DINA, are the main actors of staged abuse in DESAPARECIDOS. To interpret an abuser is often harder than interpreting a victim, and we suggest this choice to players comfortable in playing hard and strong scenes. Nonetheless, you will never be forced to play scenes you find uncomfortable, and you can always opt out using the safe words. Some characters will have a mandatory costume that we will provide without any further cost; they will mainly be Army officers, soldiers and Carabineros. DINA personnel won’t wear any distinctive uniform.

International Guests

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

International guests “We want to help, not undermine you. You did a great service to the West in overthrowing Allende. Otherwise Chile would have followed Cuba” (Henry Kissinger, US Secretary of State). Americans, Italians, undercover agents from other nations. The communist menace attracts many different people to Chile, ready to fight for their interests. They are official envoys from other countries, spies ready to snitch to their governments, and if necessary intervene in the Chilean national affairs. Accomplices or silent witnesses to Villa Grimaldi’s events, strong opponents or loyal supporters of the regime and of what happens in the detention center. Politics, intrigue, the international guests’ gameplay is like a chess game, where Chile is the board, pawns can be sacrificed to save the king; and the global scenery, in the middle of Cold War, is more important than human rights. Not all world is blind, and voices about what is happening under the regime are spreading. The gameplay of the international guests will be strong in politics and intrigue, with the dilemma of having to represent the interests of their own country, or their own, in front of the atrocities they will witness or will be guilty of. THEMES: convenience, human rights, politics, ethics.

The Military

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

The military. "The country is safe, because we have a good secret service” (A. Pinochet) Soldiers, army members, ordinary police, Carabineros, and agents of the DINA, the feared and dangerous secret police. They are military, but also politicians, in a mashup common in dictatorships. They can be cold, but also cruel and violent. They are respected by some, and feared by all. Among them there are loyal soldiers, but also ambitious and ruthless individuals that hide their perversions behind orders and an uniform. They are the fist of repression, justified by the need to maintain order and safety, avoiding any opposition that might destabilize or damage the government, protecting Chile from the soviet menace. Their gameplay will be related to physical and psychological abuse, discovering brutality, and they will be torn between duty, discipline and moral dilemma. THEMES: human dignity, responsibility, duty, morals.

Villa Grimaldi personnel

Mostra/nascondi descrizione del gruppo

Villa Grimaldi personnel “Not a single leaf moves in this country, without me knowing it” (A. Pinochet) “Exterminated like rats” (La Segunda, regime-aligned newspaper) Villa Grimaldi personnel are the civilians that follow the officials of the regime: handymen, fixers, secretaries, employees. They are the ears that hear everything, and the eyes that see everything. They are in a privileged, safe position, subordinate to the military. They are silent witnesses to the atrocities of the regime, if not active accomplices. They embraced the authoritarian regime, and are part of it, out of idealism or convenience, and thanks to their status and independence are free to roam, always on the edge, risking that their connections or choices turn them into opposers in the eyes of the regime. The gameplay of the personnel will feature convenience and espionage, ambition, fear to be exposed, and the tragic acts they will witness or even participate to. THEMES: opportunism, loyalty, betrayal, compassion.
